Many politicians quarrel a lot whether or not university education should be financed by the state. This important public issue has became nowadays popular as the students population grew up enormously. There are many arguments for and against free of charge university education.
First argument in favour is rooted in constitution that says we are all equal and have the same opportunities as Polish citizens. Thus university education cannot be paid because not everyone could afford it.
Another is that Poland is rather poor country and paid education would simply worsen the situation. The society would never gain proper intellectual level.
Opponents of free education often refer to western countries practice where paid education has long tradition. According to them such a solution ensures higher quality of teaching.
Moreover, opponents claim that the state is no longer able to pay for its citizens and non-free of charge studying is an unavoidable consequence of democracy and capitalism.
To conclude; they both proponents and opponents are right. Although studies cannot be paid as not everyone, even talented and intelligent individuals can afford it, the authorities can no longer ensure it. However the collection has already came as alternative private higher schools and universities or even paid part-time studying at state universities.
